Al Gibbons began working with a local Manning CPA firm on a part time basis prior to graduating from college and then full time after graduating from Francis Marion University in 1980. In 1984, Al opened his practice as a sole proprietor and soon after formed the partnership of Gibbons & Usry, CPA’s with another local Manning Certified Public Accountant.
Gibbons & Usry, CPA’s, PA was re-branded as Gibbons & Company, CPA, PA upon the withdrawal and semi-retirement of Al’s partner on June 30, 2016.
Over the years the firm has engaged in financial audits of small businesses and local government organizations, preparation of financial statements, and income tax services for individuals, businesses, and estates, as well as general accounting services.
In 1984, Al Gibbons opened his practice as a sole proprietor after working several years with a Manning based CPA firm.
In 1985, Al formed a partnership with a local CPA and continued in practice with his partner until the partner’s withdrawal and semi-retirement on June 30, 2016. The firm grew from its initial small client base and has continued to grow over the years.
The firm quickly outgrew its initial office facilities and moved into its current location at 113 S. Brooks Street, known as the Wells House (circa 1920), in 1988.
The office suffered extensive fire damage in May of 2004 but was immediately rebuilt to replicate the original structure, with modern improvements.
While the firm continues to provide full accounting services, income tax services for both individuals and small business has become an area of specialization. The firm’s experienced staff is able to efficiently process tax returns at very competitive fees.
The firm was re-branded as Gibbons & Company, CPA, PA on June 30, 2016.
Al is a 1980 graduate of Francis Marion University with over 30 years’ experience as a Certified Public Accountant. A life-long resident of Clarendon County, Al has spent his entire professional career in Manning while serving clients from all parts of South Carolina as well as other states, and even abroad. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. In addition to his professional career, Al has always believed in serving his church and community, and has held leadership positions in a number of organizations.
Nelson is a 2016 graduate of Francis Marion University where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting. Nelson is a CPA candidate and is currently preparing for the CPA Exam and working towards his other licensing requirements. Prior to graduation, he spent two summers working with our firm and also completed a university sponsored internship with our firm during his final semester. In addition to his extensive studies in business and accounting, he completed several courses in taxation and tax research.
Cindy joined the firm in 2008 after a career that includes work as a legal secretary and working with various state agencies. Her prior job experiences and people skills makes her invaluable in the area of client support services. Cindy posts general ledger activity on our in-house system for clients, prepares client payrolls and payroll related reports, prepares sales tax returns, and other reports for clients. She assists with assembly of prepared income tax returns and coordinating with clients to ensure documents are properly signed and delivered, as well as other supporting roles during tax season.
Freddia joined the firm in 2004 on a part-time basis after a career that includes working with clients and customers in the insurance industry and other customer based businesses. Freddia’s prior job experience and people skills makes her invaluable in the area of client support services. Freddia posts general ledger activity on our in-house system for clients, prepares client payrolls and payroll related reports, prepares sales tax returns, and other reports for clients. She assists in coordinating with clients to ensure documents are properly signed and delivered, as well as other supporting roles during tax season.
